Evergreen Amusement Park Rides

The world’s oldest amusement park can be found just outside Copenhagen in the Jægersborg Deer Park. The destination is also known as Bakken – and it has been a feature of the landscape since 1583 when it was established as a park for people to enjoy the spring (with its supposed healing waters) and for the nobility and upper classes to hunt with hounds. Today the amusement park still has rides that are steeped in history, such as the five roller coasters, including the Rutschebanen (Danish for “The Roller Coaster”)which has been in operation since 1932. What is amazing is that many of the oldest rides in the park are still as popular today as they were when they were first unveiled to the public those many years ago – and that these types of rides are still favorites in amusement parks across the world today.

These evergreen park rides include the following.

1. The Ferris Wheel.

This is one of the most famous amusement park rides (знаменитые аттракционы в парке развлечений) due to the fact that not only does it provide patrons with a leisurely experience and fabulous views – but also because it is simply so visible to the general public. One of the most famous is the Wonder Wheel on Coney Island, New York – it’s been in operation since 1920.

2. The Roller Coaster.

The first patent for what we now know as the roller coaster (американские горки) was filed in 1884 – but examples can still be found in amusement parks across the globe. Although there are a huge variety of roller coaster experiences to be had the foundations of gravity-assisted accelerated fun and thrills still remain as true as they were when this timeless ride was invented. For those who want to enjoy a blast from the past the ‘Leap-The-Dips’ in Lakemont Park, Altoona, Pennsylvania was built in 1902 – and still thrills visitors.

3. The Merry Go Round.

The Merry Go Round is one of the oldest park attractions that is still in use today. The first in the United States began delighting young and old in Salem, Massachusetts in 1799. For those who want to enjoy a historic ride, the unusual ‘Over-the-Jumps’ in Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas started operating in 1924. Rather than the normal track this has a floor that is undulating. Another great experience can be enjoyed on the ‘Derby Racer’ (patented in 1917)’ at Playland in Rye, New York – which gallops along up to three times faster than the run-of-the-mill carousel.

4. Bumper Cars.

Bumper cars (Бамперные машинки) are a timeless classic with one of the first being Witching Waves at Coney Island’s Luna Park which was opened in 1907. These bumper cars did not even use electricity but were propelled across the deck of the ride due to the undulating nature of the floor. Even though today these rides come in a variety of styles the attraction of being in control and the thrill of crashing into other patrons remains the same.

There are certain amusement park rides that will remain evergreen even in today’s screen and technology-driven amusements – and long may this remain the case.
